Folkcraft Summer STEM Program

June 9-13 2025 9 am- 2 pm

Ages 7-12

Cost: $285

During this week in the Woods, students will explore old and new techniques to create fun and useful creations from materials found in the forest. Children will develop upon their creative minds and inner engineers. They will be guided in primitive folkcraft working with natural plant dyes, fibers, and wood. As part of this process participants will go on frequent guided excursions, learning to recognize the unique characteristics of forest types, flora and fauna of the landscape, tend to the organic garden, and learn about the influences of living off-grid on forest dynamics by creating STEM enriched projects within a forest landscape such as solar cook oven and waterwheel.

Leave the hectic, media driven, everyday world behind and step into a quieter existence for a short week – experiencing the connection between natural history and the creative process. As a group we will work toward building an intimate relationship with the environment around us through exploration, experimentation, craft, and play – thereby becoming better stewards of the land that supports us.
